Highlights of the newly revised Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008

  • Receive a tax credit of up to 10% of the purchase price of your principal residence - not to exceed $8,000.
  • Single taxpayers with up to $75,000 modified adjusted gross income or married couples with up to $150,000 qualify for the full $8,000 credit.
  • Single or head-of-household taxpayers who earn between $75,000-$90,000 and married couples filing a joint return who earn between $150,000-$170,000 are eligible for partial credit.*
  • Available for homes purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 1, 2009.
  • Homebuyers may elect to apply their tax credit against their 2008 or 2009 returns.
  • For newly constructed homes, eligibility is determined by settlement date.
  • Single family, townhouses and condominiums qualify.
  • Home buyers may not have owned a home in the past three years.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen who files taxes to qualify.**
  • Tax credit does not need be repaid unless the residence is sold or no longer the principal residence within 36 months.
